Overview

While the iconic "Banner Logo" was done away with in 1946, most of the important design aspects of the Gibson Southern Jumbo from 1946 - 1955 are the same as those earlier instruments, and in some cases, even improved a bit as the wartime material shortage had ended and good spruce and mahogany was readily available once again. The "belly up" bridge was introduced in 1949 and notably improved the sound of the SJ, allowing for more vibration on the top between the bridge and the endpin.
