About This Listing

Product Description

Used Gretsch 6010 Gretsch Sun Valley Model 6010, first produced in the late 50s, the model lasted about twenty years.  The Model 6010 was a large, dread-shaped guitar designed to compete with the mighty D-28, at a lower price point.

The body is rosewood ply, and the X-braced top is solid spruce.  The neck is mahogany topped with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard.  The bound headstock has a Brazilian overlay with Gretsch inlaid in abalone.  Tuners are original, individual type with metal buttons.  This model has an adjustable truss rod.  The label is the type from the 50s, with the dark lettering and no orange, which helps us date this guitar to the late 50s.  Serial number is 21081.

The body measures 15 1/2" across at the lower bout.  Scale length is 25 3/8", and the fingerboard measures 1 11/16" across at the nut.

Recent repairs include a neck set.  Other repairs in the past include replaced bridge and pick guard; strap button installed into upper bout.  It appears someone had cleaned the top, and possibly over sprayed it as well.  There are three repaired top cracks and the binding is reglued in a number places around the top and back (common to Gretsch in this era).  There is some wear on the fingerboard, and general nicks and dings from use and age, but a solid guitar.

The action is set quite comfortably at 6/64", and the guitar plays well.  It's quite lively in its tone, with a fairly strong presence when pushed with a flat pick, but mellows out nicely finger picked. This guitar comes with a chipboard case.
