Steinberger TransTrem XM-2 Headless 4 string bass 1988 / Rare

Introduced in early '87 and logically dubbed the "Bass TransTrem", features the ability to transpose strings in tune from low B up to high C. The first bridge enabling chords and intervals to remain perfectly in tune during tremolo operation. There were between 140 and 200 bass TransTrem's ever produced and some were never installed but rather used for Steinberger's parts department .

This bass plays and sounds wonderful with all original EMG active electronics.
There was a modification done to the body top near the third potentiometer knob but since has been filled with touched up. There is a close up picture of this imperfection. There are some body scratches, minor indents, and some small hairline finish cracks by the neck to body joint. The frets are in mint condition and the TransTrem is in perfect working order.
Custom 24th Fret position inlay - "Ned Steinberger"

Bolt-on neck numbers are stamped into the underside of the neck near the heel. This mark also includes the words "STEINBERGER USA". The Newburgh stamped numbers start with "N", Newburgh New York.
