For sale, eighteen (18) unique, hand-made guitar picks fashioned from woolly mammoth tusk ivory.

Thickness ranges from about 2mm to about 6mm. The shapes are all different, and different players will find different appealing qualities. Those who like thick picks should especially find the thicker ones useful. Some of the picks in this lot have textured surfaces on one side, where the ivory fractured, see photos. The two smallest picks in the lot retain some outer "bark" which provides a grippy texture on one side. Each pick is polished and waxed to help keep moisture out.
Unique ivory picks make great gifts, and you'll probably find some that work well for you to keep & use. Retailers might profitably resell them* by letting players try them out.

Mammoth ivory has material qualities that lend itself to great tone and, for many, improved picking technique. Here are a couple of letters from owner/users of mammoth ivory picks I made for them:

"Frankly, it's amazing. I'm having a real hard time using anything else. It's actually improved my playing. That probably sounds silly, but it's made me far more accurate, and articulate. It just makes me pick better.

The attack is bright and defined when plugged in, but not over the top. Just very punchy and present. Open chords still have loads of note definition. Everything separates in a really good way." (-Greg, working guitarist in Ohio, Jan. 2018)

"I got the pick and I've been whanging away with it all after noon on my LP jr. and my Strat. Let me just say, I am not exaggerating when I say it is utterly fantastic. The thickness is great, the feel in my grip is excellent, the impact on the strings is just plain great and the polish you put on it is magnificent." ( -Brad, guitarist in Idaho, Jan. 2018)

For myself I find thicker ones, with extra mass, impart more 'power' to the string for best tone, and they have the best grip control. I never thought I'd like a 4mm thick pick but it beats my old 1mm plastic picks. Others prefer thinner mammoth picks for a brighter sound. You can also file the tips to a sharper point for brighter tone, or a rounder tip for a different, warmer attack, or if the tip wears down in time, it can easily be refined with an emory board or small file.

At this quantity price you're basically paying for my time to make the picks. Consider the ivory itself a gift from the woolly mammoth who walked the Earth maybe 20,000 years ago!

Picks are all cut from the same mammoth tusk. Visible acute Schreger lines on the pick ends are positive ID of mammoth ivory.
The picks come in a used, slightly scratched, clear plastic divider case.
ONLY U.S. based buyers, please. No shipments outside the U.S. for this item. Free U.S. shipping included in price.

* In the U.S. it is legal to buy this fossil mammoth ivory from WA state, but check your state laws before re-selling mammoth ivory; a small number of U.S. states including CA have new restrictions as part of the important effort to end trade in elephant ivory.
