About This Listing

{Just in case it's not obvious... the patina on the hardware is intentional. Had some questions.}

As you may know, we're big fans of makers that choose the path less taken. Making a great strat, tele or LP takes craft, but Art requires taking Risks. Matt Proctor, the man behind, in front and on all sides of M Tone guitars, is a solo artist from Oregon, toiling away alone in his studio, building interactive art, one cut, one shave and one guitar at a time.
His artistic risks are not just flourishes. Each gesture has meaning. The shapes and cuts and amorphous edges all work together to make the guitar comfortable and easy to play in multiple positions.

And then there was the poor guy who directed the word steampunk at this baby. As folks trained in fine art, we railed on the poor guy. Steampunk is mindless accretion of useless rusty metal bits. Take yer steampunk, yer wheat grass, and yer moustache wax and put em back in the garage loft.

Matt's use of metal is strategic, for it's tonal qualities, and the patinas he gets on the metal are the stuff of highly skilled sculptors like diSuvero and Moore. Note the aluminum fretboard markers, too.

We love when a guitar has some special touch or reference outside itself. We like to think this paisley version of his dynamo model hearkens back to the paisley pawn shop jaguar referenced on his web site, that was his initial inspiration back in Santa Fe at 10 years old.

As you might imagine, it's an aggressive sounding guitar when fully wound. However, it's compelling through the full range of the the volume and tone knob. We took it most of the way down and got full rich almost jazzy tones out of it with a light attack, yet still punchy with bite at a penny or two with a forceful attack. The name really does reflect the dynamism of the tone of this guitar.
