The OB-6, created from a collaboration between Dave Smith and Tom Oberheim, is a six-voice, fully analog two oscillator-per-voice synthesizer. Both oscillators have variable wave shapes from Saws to Pulse, (with a triangle wave on oscillator two.) The oscillators are then fed thru the iconic Oberheim SEM filter, with high pass, low pass, notch and bandpass outputs. These are then feed into analog VCAs, providing an all analog signal path.
Modulation sources can be assigned to essentially any parameter with no menu diving. Each control has a dedicated knob on the front panel. Also included is a dual effects section, that gives studio-quality delays, reverbs, chorus, as well as faithful recreations of the classic Oberheim phase shifter and ring mod. All the effects are 24-Bit, 48kHz digital resolution with true bypass, keeping the analog signal path when not in use.
A multimode arpeggiator and 64-step polyphonic step sequencer (six notes per step) are also included to make the OB-6 an entire synthesizer workstation. When not all voices are used by the sequencer, one can perform on the remaining voices while the sequence continues.
The keyboard is semi-weighted, with four octaves. It has full-size keys for those used to playing pianos and electric keyboards.
