EPIPHONE
“Rivoli”
EB-232C
1964
BASS GUITAR
The 2nd most ICONIC bass
guitar of the “English invasion” in the early 1960’s. Without argument, the
most iconic bass guitar of that time period was the HOFNER 500/1 “Violin”
shaped played by Paul McCartney. But then
the Animals came along with Chas Chandler playing some of the most recognizable
bass lines of all times on the Epiphone “Rivoli” acoustic electric bass guitar
(Model RB232).
This guitar is from my personal
collection. It is the bass guitar that I
yearned to possess but could not afford to own at the age of 14 based on summer
income from working on a tobacco farm. In
1965, I had saved up enough money to buy a bass guitar but it was a “Dolphin
nose” bass by Danelectro labelled Silvertone and sold by Sears. But it was the “Rivoli” that I always wanted
to own. And own it I did many years ago
when I started to collect guitars. In
fact, it was the second piece I bought.
It is magical.
Watch and listen to Chas playing his
Rivoli on the attached video clip. Yes, it is magical.
