The story on this guitar is simple, but very interesting. The gentleman that previously owned it bought it new in late 1976. He was a prominent collector from Florida and in these past few years, we have been chosen to assist him in liquidating his collection. When this D-76 was shown to us, it was still sealed in it's original box, unopened. Imagine if you will, a real live, 40-year old virgin. Forget that movie with Steve Carell, we have the original right here before your eyes. I have a video of said collector opening the box and unsealing the guitar for the first time since it was packed at Martin in 1976. It was a really cool moment.

Now, when we got our first look at the guitar, the thing we immediately noticed was that the pickguard had curled up around the edges. Couldn't explain it then and can't to this day, but it was what it was, so knowing that we couldn't sell a guitar this pristine with a wonky pickguard, we called on the talents of one of, if not the best luthier on the East coast to replace it. When he returned this guitar to us, we could only shake our heads in amazement. If I hadn't mentioned the fact that the pickguard had been replaced, you would never know it- the work is that good. We did cut the original, 40 year-old strings off and put on a new set of John Pierce's- strings we think are among the best to be found. The certificate has never been unrolled and the original case and shipping box is included with the package.

Folks, you might see several D-76's on the market, but I will swear on a stack of bibles that you will not find another in this condition and with this history. We know that these special guitars have a large fan club, so if you are one of those people and are looking to round out your vintage Martin collection, then please give us a call on one of the rarest and finest dreadnaughts we've had this year. You have our Elk word that you will not be disappointed!
