About This Listing
Up for sale, a 1965 Vox V-232 Violin Bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. An uncommon and early Vox bass made by Eko in Italy, this solidbody bass clearly takes its cues from Paul McCartney's Hofner, yet with a body design that eliminates unwanted feedback and keeps the tone particularly punchy and round. Strung with high tension flatwound strings on the 30" scale, this bass has ample thump and fullness, and the pair of original single coil pickups are detailed and clear. Also, unlike the majority of Vox basses from the '60s, this V-232 has a particularly massive maple neck with a shape that is both fuller and wider than most that came after it. Surprisingly light at only 7lbs 12oz, we've had this Vox dialed in for optimal action and intonation here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.
The maple neck features the previously noted chunky C shape, firmly in "baseball bat" territory with big shoulders and an ebony fretboard. The bound fretboard features pearl dot inlay and original slender frets which show virtually no wear. The nut measures 1 11/16" and the headstock features the small Grover tuning machines only seen on the first iteration of this model.
All of the electronics work as intended with Master Volume and Tone knobs and a rotary three-way pickup selector switch sandwiched between them. The hardware is in great shape including the original bridge with threaded saddles, clean chrome pickup rings, and trio of knobs. Cosmetic wear is limited to one decent sized finish chip on the bass side lower bout edge of the top and some light scuffing on the back, as well as some finish checking in the original gloss Sunburst finish adjacent to the bridge. The neck profile has a smooth ambered gloss which highlights a bit of figuring in the maple and shows only a couple small, shallow nicks.
This is a well-kept, 100% original vintage Vox bass with a great neck, thumpy flatwound strings, and a lightweight solidbody design.
The original gray Vox hardshell case with red plush interior is included. The case is in great shape with original latches and handle.
