This is an extremely rare amp made by West German company Kitty Hawk.

It's got great, warm cleans, which is why I originally bought the amp. Spanky sound for funky strumming. Can really rock, too, when you push it.

Highlights include extreme versatility, running in Class A or Class AB, being able to handle both EL34s and 6L6s, and 3 gain scenarios (2 gain channels, and the ability to combine them). Oh, and a hard wood dove-tailed cab!
  • 60 watts—can get loud
  • G12T Celestion speaker
  • Pair of Mesa EL34s installed currently (has a switch so you can use it with 6L6s)
  • 4 preamp tubes…
  • Power switches easily from Class A to Class AB with front rocker switch
  • Master volumes for both channels
  • Lead/overdrive has 2 options, 3 when combined (combining produces monster saturated gain)--all foot switchable. Foot switch is a sturdy replacement and operates as it should, except one of the lights doesn't function.
  • Reverb
  • Effects send
  • Replacement foot-switch, with lights
  • Hardwood, dove-jointed cab (likely oak)
  • Smokeless home and low use. Has only played a handful of gigs  and mostly stayed in the music room (since I bought it used around 1990).
  • Excellent platform for pedals (this is how I choose to get dirt with it)
  • Weight: 54 lbs.
  • Original MSRP: $1,400
Prince played one for a bit, and there's a photo somewhere on the web of him with it on stage, but I can't find it now.

See photos for a few scuffs to covering and for mild discoloration on top. There is a bit of Buzz from the cab or some slightly loose part at higher volume and some frequencies. It's not an amplified electronic sound, but mechanical vibration. Also see front panel for a few replacement knobs, which brings me to addressing what you'll read online when you look this up...

You'll find people who absolutely love these amps. Other people mention bad transformers on some of these... This transformer has had no problems in the nearly 30 years I've owned it. And people mention the cheap-o pot shafts, and... guilty as charged. This amp has lost 3 knobs so far. (The only one I remember was carrying it and bumping into the storm door.) Each time, I've had the knob replaced with a better shaft. Some people just replace them all.

Note on company history: Kitty Hawk was a West German amplifier company run by the Roy brothers back in the 80s and 90s (some say as far back as 70s). They imported both Dumbles and Mesa Boogies and the forums have people arguing about how much they borrowed from Dumble and Mesa in their designs. Evidently, Dumble was concerned enough to start epoxying the electronics inside to hide his work. Though most conclude they were modeled more on Boogies.

I'm selling because it's not getting played much since I bought a Tone King Imperial, and when I need a second amp I bring a smaller combo.
