About This Listing

Joe Till Guitars
Model: TG-521 no. 3
Walnut Top

This was the first 25 1/2 inch version of this model. The original prototype had a 24 3/4 inch scale, which is fun and fast, but the balance was a little off. Ever since, I've been going with longer and longer scales, so far topped out at 28 5/8", with a 32 inch bass in the works.

But 25 1/2" feels just about right for this shape.

The walnut top and back were salvaged from very old door panels, estimated to be from the 1860s, and thought to be English Walnut, but I am not certain of this. But it is unlike any other walnut I've worked with.
Just under the top and back is a thin rosewood veneer, then a semi-hollow alder center section. The body has a gloss lacquer finish.

The laminated curly rock maple/black walnut neck is sculpted to a comfortable medium/fat u-shape. It has a birdseye maple fretboard with abalone dots, 12 inch radius, 22 medium/jumbo frets, bone nut, 2-way trussrod, 14 degree angled headstock with walnut crotch veneer. Neck is finished with a satin lacquer. Locking "Bitterroot" tuners.

This guitar was built to be played, and it plays easily. Seymour Duncan SH-5 at the bridge, and an SH-1 "'59" at the neck. Both are split by the push/push volume pot.

So, I'm a one man shop - always have been. Which is probably why I'm still at it after 22 years. And it's why you should do what you can to contact me. I built this guitar from scratch. I know more about it than I can possibly fit on this page. So, please feel free to write to me with any questions.

The youtube thing is this guitar, but for some reason I'm using an ungodly amount of delay and reverb. But, you should be able to gain something by watching it. I just had this one out the other day after months in the case and had a blast. I ran through every style I could think of and it caused me no problems - which is high praise. "It caused me no problems".

Case included. But, to remind you, this is a handmade guitar. As such, I do not offer refunds. That should be good enough reason to contact me first.

Thanks for looking.
