Slingerland made the May-Belle guitars. This one dates from the 1930s. The photo from the Slingerland catalogue shows the Style 0 from 1936. I also posted a picture of Jimmie Rodgers, from his early years, posing with a May-Belle guitar, probably a prop. I don't think anyone really knows how many guitars he used, but THIS particular May-Belle was not one of them. Later photos show him playing his custom Martin 000-45.
This guitar is in good shape, with the exception of a bowed neck, something I've seen in most of these older mail-order guitars. It's still playable, but it does get tough doing bar chords past the 5th fret. The tone is nice.
It is probably made from birch. It has a deeper bass response than other Slingerland guitars I've played.
