You are
checking out a 1996 Korean Epiphone Emperor Regent II, customized to
evoke a Golden Age Gibson archtop, inspired by the L-5, L-7, L-12, and
other monumental jazz guitars.
The pickup is a gold Seymour Duncan SH-1N, ’59 neck humbucker, modeled on the classic Gibson PAF humbucking pickups of the 1950s, ideal for a full-sized jazz archtop guitar. The pots, wiring, and output jack are
all custom additions, as well. The guitar sounds fantastic with the classic PAF style Duncan ‘59.
Note the new gold parallelogram trapeze tailpiece, a reproduction of the
kind found on the Gibson L-7, ES-175, L-4, ES-5, and other legendary
hollowbodies.
The tuning machines are high-quality gold Wilkinson Imperial style. These tuners are perfect for this
reproduction-style guitar.
The four-ply
(W/B/W/B) pickguard is attached with a Gibson gold bracket.
Another
cool detail: the high-quality rosewood floating bridge with diamond
inlay with a gold Tune-O-Matic ABR-1
top.
Check
out the new mirror-top volume and tone knobs with gold
position indicators.
It's strung with a set of new D'Addario Jazz roundwound 12s. Flatwounds would work well for getting a Wes Montgomery
sound. But I leave that to the buyer.
The 17" spruce and maple body is in nearly perfect condition, amazing for
a guitar that’s over 20 years old. The size, dimensions, and shape are
virtually exactly like those of an L-5, L-7, and so on. The curly maple on the
back and sides is beautiful, as I hope the photos show, and the spruce on top
has nice straight grains. The multiple-ply binding is intact all over the
guitar. The neck is straight, and though the frets show a bit of wear, they
have plenty of play left. The nut is the standard 1 11/16”. The guitar looks
just as nice as the photos indicate.
The guitar sounds fantastic, especially when plugged in. It really gets that
classic, warm jazz tone.
This instrument comes in its original
Canadian hard shell case, with
gray plush lining. The case is not new, but it’s a solid, probably TKL case,
made to last a long time.
The body and the back of the headstock have some holes from former hardware,
most obscured by current hardware, like the tailpiece. A few of holes are
filled in with wood putty and then treated with Stewmac touch-up.
The shown shipping is for the farthest parts of the Lower 48 United States, like California, probably less if you're closer, like Ohio or Pennsylvania, and more if you're if
you're in Hawaii or Alaska. Write me for an idea of how much more I would
charge. I would rather not ship outside of the United States, but write me if
you are in Canada or abroad, and we'll see what can be done.
