Up for sale, a 2001 Gibson SG Standard Tony Iommi signature model in excellent condition and in perfect working order. An extremely rare Gibson signature model, the Iommi SG is a very unique model designed by the man at the sonic forefront of Black Sabbath. This guitar features a distinct neck carve, 24 fret ebony fretboard, pearl cross inlay, Grover tuners, and a pair of Iommi signature Gibson humbuckers. These pickups are designed to deliver heavy punch, balanced lows, blistering mids, and razor-edged highs. A patented magnet configuration and special wire winding ensure maximum sustain, and wax and epoxy potting prevent unwanted feedback in high gain scenarios. The guitar weighs in at 7lbs 14oz and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action and accurate intonation.
The mahogany neck has a big D profile, with prominent shoulders and a shape that's fairly flat central to the back. The ebony fretboard features pearl cross inlay and original frets that show virtually no wear with well rounded crowns. While the scale has 24 frets instead of Gibson's usual 22, the scale length is still 24 3/4" and the nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The headstock features factory installed Grover Rotomatic tuners which have a very reliable gear ratio and hold pitch well. A truss rod cover with Iommi's signature is also present.
All of the electronics work as intended and the chrome hardware is quite clean with great shine on the pole piece-less humbucker covers, ABR-1 bridge, and tailpiece. Cosmetic wear consists of light buckle rash on the back and some scuffing in the pick path.
This is an extremely rare Gibson model, and it comes complete with the original hardshell case, which is also unique for this model with a cross on the exterior and both Iommi's signature and cross on the "blanket" inside the case.
