This is the real deal, a vintage 1938 Epiphone Olympic from the golden age of pre-war New York Epiphone guitars. All of the parts appear to be original and it’s in very good condition.
While this is guitar only has a 15 1/4” lower bout, don’t let that make you think that this guitar can’t get loud. Think of loud, cutting tone that David Rawlings gets with his Olympic. This one has it.
This guitar was built with solid mahogany back and sides, and the top is made from solid, hand carved, tap tuned Adirondack spruce. In my experience, the tone, volume, and clarity of Epiphone’s small archtops is unmatched.
This guitar has its original finish, which shows scattered nicks and scratches, as well as some honest playwear on the neck. However, all in all, it’s in remarkably good condition for an 80 year old guitar.
The action is good, and actually great for comping, although it might be a little high for someone wishing to do very fast runs. For the average player, the action is fine, but a neck reset could get the action extremely low if wanted, as the neck is very straight.
A modern hardshell case is included. The case has a factory defect and the tolex is gaffer taped along one edge, but securely holds and protects the guitar.
