About This Listing

Actual guitar shown in the above photographs.

In the early ‘80s, Fender introduced a new entry level guitar to replace the Mustang, the Bullet series designed by John Page. The first iteration of this series was released in 1981 and came in two versions: deluxe, which featured a plastic pickguard and a separate hardtail bridge, and standard, which featured a bridge built into a metal pickguard with individual saddles for each string. This piece is one of the latter, a standard Bullet from 1981 in red finish with a black pickguard. Featuring Kluson Deluxe tuners, a rosewood fretboard, and two single coil pick-ups, this guitar would have fulfilled the need for an entry level instrument while being a bit simpler than a Mustang, having a 3-way selector rather than on-off switches. This guitar has great playability from the comfortable neck and a nice action thanks to our tech. There is a bit of buzz every now and then from the free-to-move saddles, and the pick-ups leave some power and volume to be desired, but the neck sound is still quite nice with a little boost from a good amp. The instrument has also picked up some bumps and dings over the years, with the most noticeable being a chip on the back bottom, a dent on the bass side top on the edge near the strap button, a cigarette burn on the back of the neck, and a good sized chip from the headstock edge. The only originality concern would be the loss of both original knobs, which have been replaced with metal dome knobs. Ships in a gigbag.
