I made this video to compare some of my basses. You can hear the Novotny in it:
I bought this bass in rough condition and had it fully and professionally restored about 10 years ago by master bass luthier Mike Asetta. And honestly it has barely been played since. I was always too afraid to take it to gigs and have only used it at home and on a few studio sessions.
The bass is a fully carved, 3/4 scale Czech flatback made in 1927. The label on the inside says it was made by Josef Novotny and imported to the US by Wurlitzer (see pic). It's the real deal.
In the restoration process, a new ebony fingerboard and adjustable maple bridge were installed and Mike painstakingly went through every chip and crack, repairing them in the best, traditional ways. I thought about doing it myself as I am a woodworker and guitar maker, but I wanted the lineage of the repairs to match the lineage of the instrument, so I had my professionally trained friend do it instead. Google him!
This bass needs to be in the hands of someone who will play it and not hoarded away in my collection. It's time to let go.
I'm in central Connecticut (06492) and am willing to meet up locally with serious buyers. I am also willing to do a personal Skype tour of the bass and play it for serious buyers.
I will ship but would prefer to not ship. I am willing to deliver or meet half way certain distances for a fee. If you are a serious buyer looking to ship, let's discuss our options and cost prior purchase.
SHIPPING/DELIVERY IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS PRICE AND MUST BE DISCUSSED AND ADDED PRIOR TO PURCHASE.
