Dana Sutcliffe originally designed the Alvarez Dana Scoop in his guitar shop in the late 1980s. St. Louis Music (Alvarez is a division of SLM) had the creative vision to bring the product to the market place and production of the guitar was started in January of 1991 in Korea. Designed in metallic black and metallic blue, the guitars had maple necks and rosewood fingerboards, with the body made of sugar maple. It had a Floyd Rose Licensed tremolo and two Dana designed pickups in a hum bucking single coil configuration. In 1992 the Alvarez Dana Scoop was voted “Guitar of Year” by Music and Sound Retailer Magazine. Even though the design was to have better access to the strings at the base of the neck, the true function of the Scoop was that it improved the instrument’s sustain and resonance properties. It eliminated phase cancellation between the neck and body resonance.
Lita Ford was approached as one of the few musicians to endorse this new design and Alvarez made several guitars for her. Featured here is an exceptionally rare prototype with serial number "Lita 0001".
The guitar is signed on the back by Lita with a white marker and shows light wear, such as a few surface scratches and minor dings. There is a small crack at the base of the neck, which does not affect play.
The guitar further is housed in a most impressive yellow Anvil Case, which measures 16 x 42 x 7 inches and weighs 38 pounds. This case has been signed as well by Lita; twice on the front in white and once on the back in black.
Needless to say this is a highly collectible guitar that literally is a one-of-a-kind. A great collectible for Lita Ford fans, as well as guitar connoisseurs in general.
This guitar comes directly from the private collection of Lita Ford and will include a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
