About This Listing

Here we have an all original 1958 Gold 'Guard Precision Bass.  We had this looked over by the "Fender Doctor" and here is his brief rundown:

Model: Fender P Bass
Color: Three-Color Sunburst
Neck Date: 10/58
Body Date: 8/58
Pot Date Code:  137 825, 137 825
Weight : 8.84 lbs

"There are no Modifications or repairs of any kind.  There is a moderate amount of playing wear considering its age and the sunburst is not faded.  The frets are in good condition and the neck is very straight.  There are some worn spots on the anodized pickguard, but it is otherwise pretty nice.  It is fairly light in weight for a Precision Bass."

Specific Shipping costs will be calculated at time of purchase.

This is a consignment piece and therefore all sales are final. Please see our policies below. Guitar Showcase and its employees do not have influence or decision making power on the price of the guitar and are solely facilitating the sale on behalf of the consignor.

USED/VINTAGE GEAR:

Used and Vintage gear is, by definition, old and fragile. This gear is subject to age and handling wear. Scuffs and scrapes, dents and dings, repairs, modifications and replacements all are to be expected. So, while Guitar Showcase strives to accurately document and describe each piece we list, we can only accept responsibility for what we detail in the listing and what is visible in the photos. Guitar Showcase is eager to verify any additional details necessary to address any concerns you may have: just make sure to contact us with any questions you may have before submitting an offer or buying. Beyond this, Guitar Showcase can offer no guarantee and can accept no returns on Used or Vintage gear. Please be sure you know what you are buying, and please do not think that older, used and Vintage Instruments should be set up in perfect playing condition.

For high priced Vintage instruments, we highly recommend that you either have a local friend try the Instrument or come in and try it in person.

CONSIGNED GEAR:

Some of the gear in the Guitar Showcase Reverb store is listed on behalf of a consignor. These pieces are not the property of Guitar Showcase and as such we can accept no returns on any consigned equipment. Consigned gear is also subject to the same stipulations as Used and Vintage gear, as described above. Please make sure to contact us with any questions you may have before submitting an offer or buying any consignment item.

Guitar Showcase is happy to offer international shipping to select countries, with calculated shipping cost based on location. Please contact us prior to purchase for an exact shipping quote to your country. Due to additional expense and complication, we are unable to accept returns on any international sales for any reason and all payments must be pre-arranged. Please contact us for details. Product Overview
Around the middle of 1957, Fender made another very important change to the Precision Bass, replacing the single coil pickup with a split-coil design. This is actually a humbucking pickup, but Fender couldn't call that out in advertising or catalogs due to the fact that Seth Lover's patent hadn't yet run out. This era also sees the headstock shape change into something that more closely matched the Stratocaster model.

In late 1959, a slab rosewood fretboard with clay dot inlays was introduced, as was the case with the entire Fender line. In mid-'62, this changes to a thinner rosewood veneer, and then the clay dots were replaced with pearl dots in '64.

This was the last run of P-Basses made before the CBS buyout in 1965.
