About This Listing

When you buy a vintage guitar, you are not only buying an old piece of wood that looks good and play well. You are also buying some history. This is exactly the case for this stunning 1956 Gibson Les Paul Custom.

This all original beauty was purchased by a doctor based in Kalamazoo. After reading the correspondence he had with some Gibson executives it appears that he was a very respected person in his community. He was also a very good customer for Gibson as he bought them 3 guitars in 1956 including this Les Paul Custom. Needless to say that they paid special attention to this guitar. It needed to be perfect for Dr. Haddock.

59 years later, here she is waiting to be played. God, I can tell you she plays well !

This guitar will be sold with its OHSC, the letters between its original owner and Gibson executives and some case candy. As she is 59, she does have a few wrinkles (charming weather checking, very few nicks) but for sure the Dr. Haddock took great care of his guitar.  She is really healthy. She weights just over 9.4lbs and the original frets still have a lot of life. Even the case is in really good condition.

To sum up, this is an amazing guitar  with a great history that plays, look and sound great.

Product Overview
The Gibson Les Paul may carry the distinction of having the most special editions, variations, and custom models of any single guitar model. The first of these many redesigns came just one year after the original Les Paul in the form of the Les Paul Custom. The Custom differed from the normal Les Paul in a few key ways. Cosmetically, it featured all black appointments and finish, gold-plated hardware, and a generous helping of white binding on the pickguard, fingerboard, and body. The Custom also included super low frets (hence the nickname, the Fretless Wonder), an inlayed deco decal on the headstock, and a Mahogany top where the standard used maple.
