About This Listing

Up for sale is one of the original Composite Acoustics Crown Of Thorns (C. O. T.) dreadnought guitars. It was made in Louisiana before the factory was destroyed and before Peavey bought the company. They do not make these anymore and they have not been available for years.

This guitar is similar to the current Legacy guitars that are listed at $3,300 and selling for $2,600 new (). This one is voiced like a Martin, the new ones are voiced like a Taylor.

This guitar comes with an L.R. Baggs iMix system, mixing a piezo and an acoustic microphone. It has a feedback control system that works beautifully. The original black hardshell case is included, along with an extra bridge from Composite Acoustics.

The Crown Of Thorns rosette is beautifully crafted. It provides a striking contrast to the carbon fiber weave top. Photographs do not do it justice.

Fit and finish on this guitar is excellent. Tuning is rock solid. Leave this guitar in a case for weeks, pick it up and it will still be in tune. Temperature and humidity have no effect on it. No warpage in the neck. The stainless steel frets show no observable wear after years of paying. Unless you totally brutalize this guitar (like run over it with your car), it will last you forever. This is one you can hand down to you children without worry.

I hand picked this guitar from a selection of about a dozen others when I bought it. It had the best sound and was exactly what I was looking for at the time. It plays very well. If you desire a slightly lower action, any guitar repair person can make small refinements to the nut slots and the bridge to lower the action. There will be no need to do anything else to this guitar.

Carbon Fiber guitars are nearly indestructible. Take it with you to the beach. Store it in the trunk of your car on a hot day, or a cold one and it will be fine. I have taken it on road trips and was amazed that it was still in tune when I took it out to play. Of course, if you take it underwater, you may ruin the electrons, so do treat it with care. It is an instrument, not a shovel.

The only reason I am selling it is because I just bought another pre-Peavey CA guitar that I like just a little better. I also have a couple of Martins and other acoustics that fill the same musical space as this guitar and I am running out of room.

I hate to part with this, but it deserves a home where it will be played more than I've been able to play this one. I believe guitars should be played, not collected.

This is a great guitar for the right player! If you are seriously the right player, I will move a bit on price. If you are looking for a bargain basement price, look elsewhere. I want this to go to a good home and to someone who will value this instrument as much as I do. And yes, I bought this guitar when it was new. I am the first and only owner. I treat all of my guitars with love and respect. Many of them leave me in better shape than they were when I bought them.

Let me know if you are interested.

The shipping charge listed here  is an estimate. The guitar is very light, but the case is not. I will cover shipping at the right price.
