Elvin Jones’ Custom made Keplinger 5.5×14 steel pipe snare.
This drum was custom made specially for Elvin Jones in 1978 by drum maker Gregg Keplinger. This is the first actual production model of the legendary Keplinger steel pipe snare ever made (serial #0001). This is also the first of several snares Keplinger made for Elvin throughout his life. Cast hoop on top with single flanged hoop on bottom. The extended brass snare extender and additional gut snare wires were added at a later date by Tim Herman at the NY Pro Percussion shop. The drum features 2 throw off levers. Part of one throw off handle is broken but it still functions. A plaque engraved for Elvin is mounted on the shell. Includes COA signed by Elvin’s wife.
