1993 Alvarez Yairi GY-1 "Jerry Garcia Model"

This Alvarez-Yairi GY-1 acoustic electric guitar was made by Kazuo Yairi and co-designed by Jerry Garcia. The Jerry Garcia model was made from the early 1990's through 1996. I purchased this guitar new. (At the time, cost was the same as a Martin D-28.) The dating for these guitars is based on Emperor Heisa’s reign, so per the number on the heel block (0509 601), this was the 601st guitar made in September of the fifth year of the Emperor’s reign: 1993.

This guitar is setup well – and is very easy to play. The guitar was never played out. The tone is full and bright – and it sounds amazing amplified. This is a well-seasoned 25 year old guitar! I am only selling to raise money for a pre-war Gibson L-00 that I have been coveting.

I would describe the overall condition in the good > very good range. This guitar definitely shows cosmetic signs of wear, and I have tried to capture the various cosmetic imperfections in the photos – so that the buyer is fully aware of the condition. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

The most important issue of which any potential buyer should be aware is that there is a finish crack that extends from the center of the saddle to the back edge of the guitar (again, see photos). I took this to Eric Schoenberg Guitars in Tiburon, CA – and they looked inside and didn’t see the crack going all the way thru; however, buyer should assume that it does. To handle properly, they suggested that it would cost ~$150 to cleat (I have taken this into consideration when pricing this instrument).
