This is a sweet SSL clone mastering mix buss compressor, custom, hand built to professional standards. It sounds great, and even when mixing down a very dynamic mix, controls consistently and without diminishing the detail of the music.
I don't know which revision of the Gyraf board this is. The unit is 5 years old, and has really settled in to its own. It does have a sidechain board installed which works really well. It's smooth, subtle, and I've been using it for live jazz, classical and songwriter performances to a Nagra reel. It can be used to create a more dramatic compressed sound, but I like it on the over all mix as a master compressor.
Sounds great, no issues, built to last. I can't think of a rackmount, outboard mastering compressor in this price range that sounds like this.
