Conn Bell-Front Euphonium

Conn 3-valve bell-front euphonium. Sometimes called a baritone, but it definitely has the euphonium’s conical bore. Serial number (K98752) dates to 1967. All parts disassemble. All braces tight; no rattles or vibration. Valves are nicely smooth, fast, and quiet. All slides move. The third loop is just slightly resistant; all others are very free. On the tuner, all notes with the usual exceptions are easy to play within 15 cents of correct pitch.

Horn has perhaps been re-lacquered at some point; the engraving on the bell is not as distinct as expected. No model number shows, but I believe it is a 14I, a popular student model. Top bow and top side of valve cylinders have loss of lacquer, but the picture looks worse than the reality. Similar loss of lacquer in small areas here and there. Lots of the expected little dings (about 20) and scratches, but none significantly large. Largest dent is about half an inch diameter; 1 or 2 are about 3/8”, and 1 or 2 about 1/4". The rest are very small. None are deeper than 1 or 2 millimeters.

Includes a fairly new case, very strong and in good to very good condition. Also a Yamaha 48 mouthpiece in fair condition. Standard small shank.

I’m impressed with how nicely this student-model horn plays. Very light and easy to handle; ideal for a smaller student just beginning low brass studies.
