Photos of bodies and necks progress uploaded Progress of work: All bodies cut and sanded to 240 grit. All fretboards and necks glued. All inlay completed and frets installed. Headstocks routed and machinehead holes drilled. Some neck joints completed. All paint purchased (14 colours). Existing clients added to private group for updates.
UPDATE: 27 June 2018: Last of the five available has sold.
UPDATE 28 June 2018:
We decided to make one more guitar available. (That's 6 out of the total production of 10. The other 4 will go to our dealer network)

UPDATE 29 June 2018: Last guitar has now sold. Remaining four in this production batch will be available ONLY after completion.
UPDATE 1 July 2018: "Specifications update":  As per the 'rules', its time for an update on what we have planned :) For the bodies and headstock face, multiple colours of paint will be applied. These coats of paint will each be a different colour, which may or may not be the same shape as the previous coat (depending on client feedback). The paint will be applied in a rustic manner, and then aging of the paint will occur to give the appearance of an old well worn piece. Ultimately, our goal is to make these guitars look 50-100 years old, and as if the weather has taken its toll on the surface.  New photos have been uploaded. Neck shaping is about to begin...

So, we've always done things a little different here at Ormsby Guitars, so we decided to have some fun with the next release of CustomShop instruments handmade in our factory located in Perth, W. Australia :)
In the past, when offering up our CustomShop guitars, we've set out 'parameters' to which you would choose from different options. For example, we'd offer up thirty or forty tops in a run of 15 guitars. Or our famous copper finishes. All up there are generally at least 25 specifications people had to select the options for: neck woods, fretboards, body tops, binding, etc etc etc

What we started to notice, is a lot of people opted for one particular option for each specification: "Perry's Choice". This gave us the freedom to choose an option for the client that best suited the overall theme of the build, but it also added a little bit of mystery for the client. And that's fun, right?

So rather than just go ahead and build ten guitars in a new run, and set all the specifications ourselves, we decided we would try something that's new, and a bit of fun, with a bit of mystery too :)

So what we are going to do, is offer up the next run of CustomShop guitars, but you won't even know what you're going to get! Crazy? Probably. Fun? Yep!
Here's what we can tell you:
  • They will be our famous Hypemachine models
  • 6, 7 and 8 strings... you'll choose (only one 8 string though!)
  • Three piece laminated Rock Maple or Mahogany necks
  • Right hand only (sorry lefties!)
  • Ebony fretboard, with inlay
  • Solid bodies, no chambering, Mahogany
  • No tops
  • No gloss finishes
  • Bolt on neck joint
  • Luminlay side dots
  • They will be different to what we normal do :D

These are going to be bare bones rock/metal guitars. We aren't going to add in exotic tops, binding, or anything fancy like that. But they WILL be unique.

You'll be able to choose some specifications:
  • 6, 7 or 8 string
  • Neck shape
  • Overall colour theme
  • Pickups (1 or 2, plus the specifications for those pickups)
But what can't you choose? We are going to do something that is very different to the usual exotic tops and inlays for these guitars. We want to build some guitars that have an extremely unique aesthetic, that sets you apart from the crowd. We want them to be individual... no two the same.

Even the way we are going to sell these is unique and different. The normal price for these guitars is $4500 AUD each (and plus a bit more for 7/8 strings). But we are going to reward those who have faith, by dropping the starting price to $3900 all in (zero cost upgrade for sevens, and just $100 extra for eights)
As this listing is updated with more photos of the progress, the price will also increase. Early bird orders will get in at a lower price than those that wait. Every few weeks the price will increase by $100. The closer we get to you guys seeing the final products, the more it will cost to buy in. And here are the dates we will give you more information, so you can get the vibe we are going for:
  • 18th June 2018 - Listing opens
  • 23rd June 2018 - Photos of bodies and necks in progress
  • 30th June 2018 - Surface treatment on the body and headstock (plus some photos), $1 worldwide shipping offer ends.
  • 7th July 2018 - Photos of bodies and necks in progress
  • 14th July 2018 - The colours we are using, and details to the finish we will add  (plus some photos)
  • 21st July 2018 - Final finish details, including where we got our inspiration from  (plus some photos)
  • 28th July 2018 - Photos of progress
With our last CustomShop release, we offered up 17 spots. You could choose to order the guitar, or order the VIP version for a little extra, a day before the public. Those 17 guitars ended up being 23 guitars, after the store inventory system crashed with all orders being sold in just 66 seconds. Yes, one minute and six seconds. 23 guitars.

You can imagine there were a lot of guys who missed out. Hence we decided to do things differently this time around. And, we like to have a bit of fun :)

So here we are. Ready?
