Vintage Maya Gold Top Project
Here is a great opportunity to get your hands on a vintage Japanese guitar worthy of restoration.
Maya guitars are sought after in the vintage market. But all that glitters is not gold! Many Mayas have plywood bodies- the better one as are sold mahogany. This is one of the better ones! On the back we can see the body is made of 3 sold pieces of wood.
The neck is also mahogany. It needs a little attention. As does the fingerboard. But as a luthier or hobbyist you’ll not be afraid of making your own fillers and repairing pieces of wood.
The gold-top is beautifully and genuinely ‘roadworn’ as this was a guitar that was gigged on national and international tours (sorry, can’t say). The back is great too - if I wasn’t so busy relicing Guitars and Guitar Parts I’d be renovating this!
