Up for sale is 1964 Gibson Thunderbird bass guitar that I have had in my possession since 1989 which came from the estate of the late Felix Pappalardi.
Felix use this bass on the 1971 Mountain album Nantucket Sleighride on the title track.
This bass also became Felix’s main studio bass to record with.
It’s featured on Mountain “Flowers of Evil” entire studio side and every other studio album that Felix played on up until his death.
All you have to do is listen to those records to the sound.
The Mountain song “The Animal trainer and the toad” is this bass 100%.
Shortly before Felix‘s death he went in the studio to record with Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson.
A video was taken and this bass can clearly be seen in close up shots the video I’ve posted.
Felix playing the bass clean shaven.
You will have to please click on the video to watch it on YouTube.
The bass can also be seen in the Mountain “Climbing” songbook and on several other albums including David Rae Maverick child.
I’ve treasured this bass and kept pristine and it comes with the original case with Felix‘s initials inscribed on it.
I was told that this was Felix's #1 bass to use in the studio to record with and that it was his favorite bass.
Undeniably a historical instrument in the history of heavy rock music in the late 60s and early 70s.
The bass is all original and has absolutely no cracks or breaks.
Most of these Thunderbird bass guitars broke at the headstock.
They are very fragile at the headstock and pretty dangerous to ship.
For that reason I am allowing local pick up for this one.
The prices of shipping are little bit expensive on this one because I’m going to have to insure it and have it crated if it is shipped.
I’ve had this pace since 1988 and boy I enjoy owning it.
Yngwie Malmsteen even used it to write songs on.
Great bass.
