Up for sale, a 1958 Harmony H62 Espanada archtop in excellent, 100% original condition and featuring a pair of original Gibson-made P-13 pickups. One of the finest guitars to every carry the Harmony name, this archtop boasts a 16 1/2" lower bout, 3 1/2" body depth, and a tone that is as rich as it is defined. Essential for jump blues and jazz, the Gibson produced P-13 single coil pickups are a precursor to the P-90 and have a slightly meatier and darker tone. Through your favorite vintage tube amp, the Espanada has lovely top end and sparkle, with a bass response that has a sweetness and bloom to the notes without being boomy or loose sounding. Truly one of the cooler vintage pickups ever produced, the P-13 pickups compliment an archtop that's stately and alluring with a natural flame maple body, spruce top, and tortoise appointments! This H62 Espanada has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, with low, comfortable action and a fresh set of 11-50 strings.
According to the original catalog description, the "Harmony Model H62 double pickup guitar is designed for the fullest possible expression of modern guitar technique, affording sharp treble tones, deep bass, and all the in-between shadings which may be desired in lead or rhythm work."
The neck has a moderately deep D profile that has nicely rounded edges with a slightly flatter spot in the center of the profile for you to rest your thumb. The nut width is 1 3/4", perfect for complex chord voicings or fingerpicking and the original frets show only very faint wear, with their full, original height intact. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard sports pearloid block inlays and faux tortoise binding that conceals the fret tangs. The inlayed "Harmony" logo and fleur de lis look great on the Brazilian rosewood headstock veneer and the original open back Waverley tuning machines all turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics work as they should, with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup and undeniably cool original brown bakelite "cupcake" knobs. The transparent pickup rings, pickguard, and original rosewood bridge are intact, as well as the stock tailpiece and diamond switch surround. Both the H62 model stamp and 1958 date codes are visible through the F holes and inked into the inside of the back of the instrument.
Cosmetically, the guitar has been well kept and is in good overall condition. There is wear on the top in the pick path and around the bridge base, as well as various tiny scuffs and nicks on the body as a whole and light buckle rash on the back. Between frets 1-4 on the back of the neck profile, there is also some light wear where it appears the guitar was repeatedly set against the edge of an amp in its early days. There are no cracks, breaks or repairs, and this guitar is a rare and well cared for example of one of Harmony's most sought after models.
This vintage Harmony H62 Espanada is clean, complete, and sounds exceptional with the stock Gibson P-13 pickups!
A vintage hardshell case is included.
