Selling a sixties 'no brand' Japanese guitar, probably made by Teisco or Kawai. Not the most prestigious guitars around, but quite nice once you dive info it, with very vintage sounding low output pickups.
These were guitars that were produced in large numbers in the sixties and seventies and sold under many brand names: Woolworth and Hertie were some of the department stores that had these in their catalogues at the time. Brand names include Kingston, Top Twenty, Sekova and many others, but there is no brand logo on this guitar. This might have been a Teisco design, Teisco was bought by Kawai somewhere during the sixties. Appearently The Cure's Robert Smith had one in the early days of The Cure...
These are very light guitars with a smooth neck. A basic but functional tremolo is included - not suited for divebombing but surf afficionado's will love this. Two pickups and a truss rod that I haven't touched. A few dings in the body and the laquer on the front- and backside of the body has cracks - just the laquer, no cracks in the body itself. The far left corner of the scratch plate has gone but it isn't too conspicuous. Check the pictures for the condition of the guitar.
This guitar required some work when I got it. The before and after is in the video underneath this listing.
Changed the nasty rusty tuners in the end for an almost identical new set, worked on the neck position and some of the frets. New 009 strings.
The guitar is certainly playable now: action low, slight buzz on some frets but still good sounding. I will include the old tuners with the guitar and pack well. The guitar stand on the pictures is not part of the sale.
