Here is an extremely rare opportunity to own one of the finest examples of one of the finest Superstrats ever made...a production model Rand Guitar. This particular example is far and away the cleanest one known to exist...the only thing keeping me from calling it "mint" is some very light surface marks on the back that will easily polish out, and a small pea sized mark where the finish clouded on the back of the neck (see pics)...this was likely there from the start and is unnoticeable to the touch. This guitar is in better condition than any "new" guitar that you could pull off of a wall at a guitar shop...it is that pristine. Essentially a NOS piece.
I purchased this guitar in 2006 from its original owner as a backup to one that I had purchased new in '88...my primary guitar to this day for hard rock/metal. When I received it, I couldn't bring myself to play it due to its near flawless condition, so it has essentially sat in its case for all these years, only surfacing on rare occasions for a bit of a check up or photo opp.
These guitars were designed by Rand Havener and built by Tom Anderson in his California shop. They were then returned to Rand for paint and then back to Anderson for hardware/electronics installation. Most (including this one) came with Anderson pickups and electronics. This one still has its Anderson H2+ humbucker and a proprietary single coil made specifically for these guitars. All solder joints are untouched. They are built from mahogany with a 27-fret pau ferro fingerboard. The set neck has an extremely long tenon that runs through the back of the bride pickup cavity. The deeply contoured body offers easy access to all 27 frets. Weights varied, with this one coming in on the light side at 7.4 lbs. There were only approximately 70 of these instruments ever made.
The most famous player of these guitars was Vivian Campbell during his tenure in Whitesnake (up until his Kramer endorsement). You can see them in use in Whitesnake's videos for "Still of the Night" and "Is This Love"...I actually owned the latter one until recent years when I sold it to a collector of "rock star guitars". This production model is a far superior guitar (Viv's was a prototype).
This is the single finest example of what I feel is the single best guitar ever built for hard rock/metal. I'm only selling it because I have others to play and don't want to harm this one in any way. I consider myself a player and not a collector...this is a collector's piece. The price is exactly what Rand was last charging to build a new one ten years ago. If you'd like more info on these guitars and the man (Rand Havener) who built them, I did an interview with him approximately 10 years ago that is posted on various guitar forums (JCF and Kramer come to mind).
The guitar will be shipped in its original G&G case. It will ship via UPS, insured at full value, signature required, unless we come to other arrangements. For obvious reasons, I would prefer a face to face hand over. If shipped, it will be to the lower 48 only.
