Player's Perspective

This guitar combines tried and true Martin formulas with some of the latest tonal innovations the industry has to offer. In short, it’s one of the best acoustic guitars I’ve played. The sound is enormous, with plenty of detail and nuance across every part of the EQ. Right out of the box, it sounds broken in and balanced. The touch sensitivity is remarkable, but it also has a very high volume ceiling and will give everything right back to you. Martin’s Custom Shop did an incredible job with this one. Everything is meticulously dialed in – the fretboard binding, the inlays, the rosette work. The neck is just the right shape, and the fretboard is easy to navigate in every register. Only 50 of these guitars were built, and we’re thrilled that we got our hands on one. This is for the player or collector who’s looking for a top-of-the-food-chain acoustic that will be around for decades.

Special Features

This Custom Shop Grand Performance model features a solid certified European spruce top that’s been treated with Martin’s torrefaction system. This makes the wood think it has aged for about a hundred years, but without compromising stability. This is one of the reasons this guitar sounds like something that was built in 1935 and taken care of til now. The sides are solid Guatemalen rosewood, and the back is Guatemalen rosewood with a figured cocobolo wedge. Be sure to check out the photos – between the dark hue of the torrefied spruce and the three-piece back, this guitar has a classy but understated look. The truss rod is made from carbon fiber, which is both lighter and stronger than a traditional design. This axe is loaded with a great electronic system as well: the Fishman Aura VT. It’s a low-profile, intuitive system that does a remarkable job of translating the sound. You’ll have a tough time finding a more complete acoustic guitar.
