A rare example of the work of Carmelo Gugino, who was a Sicilian-American builder/businessman based in Buffalo NY (original label intact inside). For your consideration is one of Gugino's archtop models that utilizes his remarkable removable neck design (see photos). The three piece maple neck is attached to a curved rosewood piece and is affixed via a screw near the end block; tailpiece is held in place via the string tension and a modified tailpiece hanger and the pickguard is also attached to the curved rosewood piece; neck joins body with a dovetail joint. Neck has a substantial radius, an ebony fingerboard, pearl peghead logo and inlay. Body is bound and has a 17" lowerbout, maple back/sides, and a spruce top. Finish checking is present, and wear on back of neck. binding has shrunk on back/bass-side upper bout. Included in sale is a very nice newer Armitage hard case.
