About This Listing

Well here is one rare bird we have here ...

A Gibson Explorer
SN# 967310

This is a mega rare early production 1975 Explorer
Gibson re-introduced the Explorer in 1976 so how is this a 1975
Gibson used a 6 digit impressed serial number until 1975 and changed to a sticker Serial/model tag in 1975 that all Serial Numbers started with 99-xxxxxx.

So the body and neck of your guitar was part of the 1st run of guitars slated for 1976
But it was built and serial numbered in 1975 BEFORE Gibson switched
To the 99-xxxxxxx Sticker serial numbers

I have the Gibson Shipment Tools Book
On page 16 states that Gibson ONLY made 2 explorers in 1975
I will be glad to send you a pic of the book as well as page 16

In 1976 Gibson used a sticker serial number again but they started with 00-xxxxxxx
The pots date to 1976 which fits with the 1976 release of Explorers

Gibson REPEATED impressed 6 digit serial numbers several times between the mid 1960's and 1975

Gibson serial numbers repeated serial number ranges

A 1968 and a 1975 guitar could both have the same serial number.

There are ZERO 1976 made Gibson guitars with an impressed serial number

Only 00-xxxxxx serial/model stickers

There ARE 1976 assembled guitars where the bodies, necks

Serial number stamped in 1975 and wiring/pots completed in 1976 and sold

Again, according to my much research and the Gibson Shipment Tools book

This is only 1 of 2 explorers EVER made in the year if 1975

Now about this awesome rare guitar....

Neck is straight
Frets have years of life left in them
The neck pickup appears to be original
The bridge pickup is an older Seymour Duncan Invader
This might be a refinished paint job... again, not really sure
Has heavy wear
2 pots read "70-028"
The last pot reads "1377636"
Everything is structure though with no cracks

The tuners are Gibson
The bridge has been changed out

Comes with it's original Gibson red interior hard case
