1967 Guyatone HG-208 Black 8-string Lap Steel Guitar MIJ Bizarre
So there you are, with your Hawaiian group, playing a posh gig in downtown Manhattan, and everyone in your group is so on, and the playing is so perfect, but the audience just isn't getting it. What do you do? How do you take it to that next level? YOU ACTIVATE THE SURF BUTTON!
No joke. This guitar has a Surf button which creates the sound of waves crashing. What's more... the surf effect even has it's own volume and tone controls. Subtly introduce that surf, bring in the bass, let it come crashing in! Soon everyone is transported to a distant shore far away, the music and the surf become a harmonious whole. The ghost of Martin Denny appears!
There is also a tiny and anemic light for the board which is possibly useful if you are playing in complete and utter darkness.
All that aside, this is a great Lap Steel. 8-string with a Fender Deluxe 8 style bathtub for the tuners. Pickups work well and sound good across the board. Electronics have been cleaned. Surf circuit has been recapped so it is good for years to come. Has the original legs, though some of the rubber on one of the feet has torn. Tolex has some wear and tear. Also, glittery rhinestones on the guitar are probably not original, but we'll leave them there. The battery cover for the surf circuit is missing, but we can probably fashion one for you. Previous owner was apparently using tape.
Overall this is an super cool and unique instrument. It is also incredibly rare. It appeared in only two issues of the Guyatone catalogs that we have seen, and we believe it was made on a per order basis. We have never seen another one here in Japan. Now is your chance to own this incredibly unique and rare instrument. We can practically guarantee that you will be the only kid on your block with one.
