The
Performance Series is the latest line of guitars designed and built in
the Hill Guitar workshop. It is constructed in the traditional Spanish
style, with the integral body and neck joint, but incorporates a modern
soundboard, with a double-top and lattice bracing.
It is to admire the precision it took to create such an
intricate rosette and beautiful binding with mahogany with various
stained woods
This particular model was custom built with a 640mm scale, a radiused fingerboard, and a 48mm nut width, more in line with your typical acoustic guitar and is perfect for the steel string player looking to transition to a nylon guitar. This guitar is currently strung for a lefty player, but can easily be reversed back to a right handed player as I have the original factory right handed nut and saddle. It's worth mentioning that the bracing on this instrument is 100% symmetrical, so it can setup left or right handed. The guitar was ordered with a set of right handed and left handed nut and saddles. The right handed nut and saddle provided by the Kenny Hill guitar shop is in the case. As with the "Signature" model, the double-top combines both cedar and spruce, with the outer wood giving the dominant tonal influence - in this case, the cedar delivers a harmonically rich and textured quality of sound. It is also noticeably powerful, and has a wide color palette and expressive dynamic range. The lattice bracing also gives this guitar a very quick response with a strong punch.
All in all, an extremely good concert guitar at a great price. This guitar is in great condition and has not seen much play time at all. It has been stored in a smoke free, humidity controlled music room. Cosmetically, it does two sections where the french polish has slightly lifted from the wood surface which is common with this type of finish. Also it has a few nail marks on the cedar top and one nail mark the back of the neck, which was impossible to photograph.
