1977 Greco Telecaster modified with a genuine Bigsby tailpiece system that has been 'aged' and Seymour Duncan 'Vintage Stack' pickups. I also changed the OEM black pickguard to aged white.
I'm only selling because I have another one in sunburst [see last pic] set up the same and I don't need two.
This model is based upon the late 1960's pre-CBS Fender Telecasters. Sold only in Japan, this was, as were all Grecos, a top of the line Japanese made guitar built to the standards that professional Japanese musicians expected, one of the reasons they are now quite the collector item outside of Japan.
This is a true vintage guitar and has the light wear expected on a guitar that has been played. Greco branded guitars were only sold in Japan so the production numbers are very low compared to most other brands. The other brand produced at that factory was Ibanez, which was actually sold worldwide and is known for high craftmanship and famous signature models played endorsed by many well known guitarists.
Fender bought this factory in early 1980's for two reasons: they needed another factory and Greco was already building what many considered to be superior guitars, so Fender decided to eliminate the competition by absorbing it. Here's a quote from "History of Fender Japan":
Fender Japan was officially created in March 1982 as a joint venture company between
Fender USA, Yamano Music Instrument (Fender USA and Gibson Distributor that time) and
Kanda Shoki (Greco's distributor). Around 1976-1980, Many Japanese Guitar MFGs made
the replica of Fender guitars. Specially, Kanda shokai, they were distributing the
Greco brand Guitar made by Fujigen. Fujigen invested several CNC machine to produce
the accurate wood body shape without time consume. The guitars Fujigen made were
distributing with GRECO Brand as super real series. On the other hand, Tokai and other
MFGs are distributing their guitars with high-technical productivity.
The technology of those guitars were evaluated worldwide better quality than original
Fender guitars. It seems that Fender USA established the Fender Japan as one of solution/
decision to protect their brand name and market.
