About This Listing

Vintage Ampeg GE 150 Heavy Stud (Telecaster Copy)

  • Vintage 1970s
  • Made in Japan
  • Transparent Red Finish
  • A previous owner apparently wanted to disguise the fact that this is an Ampeg, so they re-cut the top of the headstock so that it looks like an LP headstock (see photo #23).  Additionally they painted the front of the headstock black, but if you look really closely at the right angle you can just barely see the original Ampeg name & logo under the black refinish (see the last two photos #24-25).  Both changes were obviously done professionally & both look really good, in my opinion.  With the changes it looks like a Telecaster with an LP neck, which is pretty darn cool...& certainly very unique.  :)
  • All of the original electronics have been modified so that now it only has a volume pot & a single pickup in the bridge position.  I don't know if this is the original bridge pickup but I'm guessing that it's not.  It's a super high output dual blade humbucker with a reading of 14.61 ohms (see photos #18-19), & it sounds absolutely incredible with distortion.  It's super powerful & sustains for days.  :)
  • The tuners were upgraded to high quality Gotoh replacement tuners.
  • The bridge saddles don't appear to be original either, but I was able to get the intonation just about perfect with the saddles that are on it.
  • I'm assuming the wacky knob on the volume pot isn't original either.  :)
  • It's just had a complete professional set-up--restrung with new .010s, frets polished, fretboard cleaned & oiled, bridge & pickup heights adjusted, truss rod adjusted, intonation set, etc.
  • Functionally this guitar is in very good condition, esp. for a vintage modified guitar. All electronics work well.  There's definitely fret wear, as you'd expect on a guitar of this age, but the frets still have plenty of life left on them (see photos).
  • Cosmetically, it's in good condition, with numerous nicks & scuffs, including a finish crack coming off of the neck pocket that is clearly only in the finish (see photo #22).  All of the flaws can be seen in the photos.

Please look carefully at all of the photos and feel free to contact me with any questions before buying.  In addition to my 100% 5-star feedback rating here on reverb.com, I also have a 20+ year, 100% positive feedback rating on eBay (from well over 1000 ratings--user name "scedro").

Note:
The set-up on any guitar is subjective & a matter of personal taste, which of course varies for every player. While each instrument I sell is professionally set-up prior to being listed on Reverb, that set-up may not be exactly to your particular taste "right out of the box" & (as with any instrument that you buy anywhere) you should expect to possibly make adjustments to the action, string gauges, etc. to suit your exact tastes.
