ABSOLUTELY MINT RESTORED 1967 4005 BASS IN RARE AZUREGLO FINISH
Restored by Paul Wilczynski of Studio California, world-renowned Rickenbacker luthier.
Body and neck are original "GD" July, 1967 (inside the control cavity: "4005T" in green sharpie and "Lupe" in pencil.)
Fretboard is new, with new frets and full-width crushed pearl fret markers. Fretboard binding is new. Body is rebound in white with checkerboard purfling. New sound hole binding, too. New pick guard and tug bar.
Neck has been reset and upgraded with a single, self-contained double-action truss rod, which is more reliable and easier to adjust for both relief and back bow, than the original double-truss rod system. I made this improvement after working on dozens of 1960s Rickenbacker basses. The adjustment is invisible until the truss rod cover is removed.
The harness is new, and pickups are both toasters: a new 7.3K ohms in the neck position, and a 1990s "hot" toaster measuring 11.3K ohms in the bridge position.
This eliminates the sonic imbalance between two pickups of the same impedance, giving the bridge plenty of "oomph" while retaining that booming, juicy hollowbody bass sound.
Tuning machines are new genuine Rickenbacker, and all hardware is new. New tug bar and pick guard, too.
This bass has playability to match its looks, and excellent signature tone.
Price is adjusted to reflect its "restored" condition, placing it far below the pricing of original examples. A playable museum-quality vintage 4005.
