Not your average RAT
This is where I ended up after going down a RAT rabbit hole and trying a load of different mods. It’s still very much a RAT, just a lot more versatile.
Condition: a few dings and scratches, no box.
What’s been done
- NOS LM308N op-amp from 1985 (date code 8516A)
- 3-way clipping switch (details below)
- Filter control tweaked to tame the fizzy top end, so the sweep is far more usable at lower gain
- High quality Gorva toggle switch
- Mini chicken head knobs
- 3D printed baseplate so it sits flat and takes velcro, ready for a pedalboard. It has a cutout for the battery door, so you can still run it on a battery
- Includes rubber feet, battery door and screw
The clipping switch
- Left: stock RAT diodes
- Middle: no diodes, just the op-amp clipping. It’s loud
- Right: asymmetrical clipping, like the JAM Rattler. More headroom, and it feels more like a cranked amp
