Antoni ADB05 3/4 - high gloss antique brown varnish finish

3/4 size Antoni Debut double bass (model ADB05 3/4), manufactured in China and exclusively distributed by John Hornby Skewes & Co. Ltd — confirmed by the original maker's label visible inside the instrument. In the family for 20 years, with genuine playing history: several years in a chamber orchestra, followed by a 5-year stint in a jazz quintet. A warm-toned, versatile bass with good natural volume for its size.

Construction: laminated spruce top (with double purfling) and back, hand-carved solid maple ribs, satin-finish maple neck with gloss-finish scroll, high-gloss antique brown varnish, ebonised fingerboard and nut, fitted maple bridge, traditional plated open-geared tuners, ebonised hardwood endpin with adjustable chrome leg and rubber foot.

Recently serviced by a professional luthier (Peter's Violins, Beverley), including a soundpost adjustment carried out specifically to maximise volume, and fitted with an upgraded carbon tailpiece in place of the original — a genuine improvement to resonance and projection.

Condition: one small cosmetic hairline mark near the lower bout — doesn't affect structure, playability, or sound (see photos). Everything else is in good, ready-to-play order.

Included: deep-padded, water-resistant 600 denier cordura bag (original to the bass, with external bow pocket, accessory pocket, and carry straps), Kaplan rosin (original), folding floor stand, spare/unfitted maple bridge, the original ebonised wood tailpiece (now replaced on the bass by the carbon upgrade, included as a spare), spare endpin end button, and specialist setup tools including a soundpost adjustment tool.

A quality German-style bow (wood stick, natural horsehair, mother-of-pearl eye inlay on the frog) is also available — this is a later upgrade bow, not the bass's original. £100 separately, or £550 for the bass with bow included. Bass alone (with stand, rosin, and bag) is £450.

Collection only from Scarborough, UK — too large to ship via courier. Message me for more photos or to arrange a viewing/test play.
