This is a very very rare Yanagisawa S902 R Prima curved neck straight soprano saxophone. To my knowledge, this is the only one in North America. These were offered in very few quantities, and were largely unknown in America.

Why is this soprano cool? Well, you get the resonance of a one piece body design with a curved neck, in a complete bronze construction.

The curved neck provides an ergonomic comfort that normal straight sopranos can’t give, also the curve makes the sound a little more nuanced and more delicate than regular straight one piece sopranos.

Also, curved neck one piece straight sopranos are all mostly brass. This curved neck straight soprano saxophone by Yanagisawa is all bronze.

Bronze definitely gives a much warmer, rounder less “shouty” of a sound than conventional brass. The highs are a little bit less piercing without losing definition or becoming too dark.

The physical condition of the horn is excellent. It has no dents or dings. It does have surface scratches from use and some spots where the lacquer has worn off. The horn was purchased with a complete repad. And with all the horns I have, this one has been played about 4 hours total since the overhaul.

The sound from this horn is magnificent. Its got a warm projecting sound that’s defined without being too dark and muddy. It’s unlike any horn you’ve ever played. Intonation is the thing that I will miss the most of this horn. It’s unmatched. I would say it’s better than most Yamahas that I have played. Super easy to play: the response is immediate. It plays well for both classical and modern music.

A Vandoren SL3 will be bundled in with the soprano saxophone.
