Marigaux M2 Professional Oboe - new S top joint and case cover!
Attention all oboists who want an easier musical life: This Marigaux M2 oboe is what you have been searching for! New in 2007, this all-grenadilla fully professional Marigaux M2 is easily *the* most reed-friendly oboe I have ever, ever played, much less ever owned. So if you want an oboe that removes pesky variables from your daily reed-making life, continue reading!
Fully professional with full conservatory redesigned keywork, including all trills, 3rd octave key on both top joints, low Bb resonance, and double articulation on the bell which vents low Bb as well as low B, this oboe is truly a dream to play and listen to. Fully adjustable Marigaux thumb rest. The M2 and 2001 share similar keywork: flattened RH and LH pinky keys for effortless sliding from one note to another, fully adjustable LHF key, and ringless bell. The M2 boasts even additional innovations, including the obviously shortened top joints and the elongated middle joint, which serves to enhance the acoustics of the right-hand notes by bringing the LH keys slightly closer together, resulting in an extremely comfortable ergonomic playing position and feel.
No cracks. The wood is in excellent, beautiful condition, and has no scuffs or deep scratch marks. Just normal signs of use. The keywork is incredibly clean and shiny, with just one very minor area of wear on the RH "F" key.
The original "M" (Medium) length top joint as well as a new "S" (Short") length top joint are both included with this oboe. This combination of different lengths allows for options in pitch and overall tone color. Both play beautifully: the "M" possesses the quintessential rich, thick, mellow tone that Marigaux oboes are globally known for, with the "S" length providing a slightly more "perky" Marigaux sound that seems to enhance the higher partials in the sound. Intonation is spot-on throughout the range of the instrument with both top joints, and those often pesky middle "C"s that plague other oboes are pleasantly round, resonant, and stable, which by itself is worth the price of admission. :)
Has all cork pads except for Low B and Bb which are white leather. Fully serviced in January 2024, this oboe is in impeccable playing condition and needs absolutely nothing!
Comes in its original Marigaux case that holds two top joints. The case cover is a brand new "Crescendo" alto flute case cover that fits the Marigaux case like a glove. Comes with wooden Marigaux tenon caps (1 for the bottom joint, and 1 for each top joint). Has been carefully stored in a humidity-controlled environment.
Back to the reed-friendliness of this oboe: It truly does revolutionize my reed-making life, in that I find that literally almost any piece of cane, whether new or old, slightly too long or slightly too short, cork staple or metal staple, tip slightly too open or slightly too closed, etc., sounds absolutely amazing on this oboe. Due to the thicker, redesigned bore, this oboe just happily and naturally absorbs all "extraneous" noise and produces the most gorgeous, fluid, resonant sound I've ever produced on any oboe in my 30+ years of playing. Moral of the story: It does NOT require perfection in your reeds to make you sound like an absolute star.
I typically use Pisoni "Artist", Loree "AK", and Winfield metal staples for my reeds with this oboe, and the reed receiver easily accepts all of them and many others.
These oboes have taken the oboe-playing world by storm since their introduction in the early 2000s, and for good reason. They provide unparalleled sound quality, tone/pitch options (via the different top joint lengths), and ergonomic factors that make oboe playing a true joy. Incredibly rare on the second-hand market, now is your opportunity to own this stellar M2 for thousands less than the price of a new version, currently sold for $18,200.
Bonus: A "Buy It Now" purchase at the current listing price will get you a third Marigaux M2 top joint! I'll include a second M-length grenadilla top that is original to this oboe, so you'll have 3 top joints to choose between for any and all practices and performances.
I am happy to provide insured shipping anywhere in the lower 48 states for a flat rate of $20. International buyers are welcome but will be responsible for any shipping/customs/tariffs.
