If you’re a tenor player who desires the power of a metal mouthpiece, but has reservations about brightness and playing feel, the JodyJazz Hand-Hammered HH Tenor is for you. Neither too bright nor too dark, the HH Tenor sits comfortably in the middle of the tonal spectrum. It’s perfect for traditional jazz, but it works great in contemporary settings requiring a brighter sound and robust volume. As for playing feel, the HH Tenor sports a shape closer to a hard rubber mouthpiece than a metal one, so the majority of players will feel right at home. As it doesn’t come with a ligature, this also means that your current ligature may well fit it. Or you could consider pairing it with the matching Power Ring hand-hammered gold ligature. Hand hammering: concept and execution

Hand hammering has been used in cymbal making for centuries. Hand-hammered cymbals are coveted for their complex rich, warm, and dark overtones. When applied to the brass blanks from which metal mouthpieces are made, the process compresses the brass, making it stronger. The harder the material, the more freely it rings out and sustains, so less energy is required to make it resonate. To bring the HH Tenor concept to life, JodyJazz collaborated with a noted hand-hammering expert. Leveraging over three decades of experience at a major cymbal company, this skilled artisan applied his expertise to the hammering of the mouthpiece blanks. The result is one sweet-sounding mouthpiece, indeed!
