Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion III 1992 - Ebony with OHSC

Up for sale is a Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion III guitar, and its original Gibson hardshell case, from 1992. This is the last variant of the Howard Roberts Series, that began in the mid-60s, first with the Epiphone and then Gibson versions of the guitar with no F holes and a regular acoustic sound hole. Nothing beats the sound and vibe of a 34-year-old guitar. The action is low, with neck relief of .006 at the sixth fret low E, and 12th fret action of 1/16th” low E, and 3.5/64ths” on the high E. It’s currently strung with 10-46 strings. You can use anything you want but remember to do a neck/truss rod adjustment.

This guitar is like a scaled down ES-137, with a slightly smaller body, but the same scale length. It has a center block, so it can be used in any genre of music, and can do the Les Paul thing, as well. It has the “Fingers” Tailpiece, with the fine tuner adjustments on each string.

The neck is straight, and there are no twists or warps. The truss rod works fine and has a lot of room left. However, in the drier months (and climates) it will be a bit noticeable that the binding at the fret ends will feel a little proud. This, in no way, inhibits the playability or sound of the guitar.

 Please check the two photos that show the fingerboard where it meets the body (on each side). The finish had started to come off on each side of the fingerboard. (Anyone who owns or has owned an ES guitar from the early 90s knows this is pretty typical. I had a ’92 335 Dot, that did the same thing, but in a different place). A previous owner addressed this quite well, by having these areas sealed. So, there will be no further loss of finish.

The humbuckers are great and the neck pickup is not at all muddy. The guitar has gold Schaller S-lock strap lock buttons. The guitar comes with a black suede strap, with the locking part of the strap locks, already attached.

There are some definite small dings and scratches on the guitar, but nothing major to point out (other than what I already mentioned).

This guitar doesn’t come a smoke free household, however, when not being played, the guitar resides in its case, in a smoke-free room. The entire guitar and the exterior of the case have been cleaned with Naphtha.
