Gretsch 6132 Corvette 1961 - Mahogany
1961 Gretsch Model 6132 Corvette. This is the rare, slab-body design that was only sold for about a year before it was changed.
This guitar has definitely had some alterations and wear-and-tear over the years. The body was routed out for a humbucker at some point and then filled in. I added a vintage, 1961 HiLo ‘Tron pickup to return it to original specs. The original bridge was replaced with an old, Tune-o-matic-style bridge, which is screwed to the top. Since a previous owner used 500K pots with the humbucker that was added, the entire wiring assembly of the guitar has been replaced with 250K pots and new wires. The pickguard had been replaced with one made from black plastic, so a reverse-sprayed replacement was fabricated and added that looks more like the original. The trussrod cover was also black plastic, and a new one was fabricated and added. The reverse spray silver on the trussrod cover does not exactly match the pickguard color, but it’s close. The tuners are not original. There are filled routs on the top of the guitar and dings and wear overall as well as some finish crazing. I have tried to show the wear on the guitar in the photos as best as possible .
The body is solid mahogany and the guitar is similar to a one-pickup Les Paul Junior. The guitar plays well and sounds great. I have enjoyed playing it over the years and I'd like to keep it, but financial obligations have forced me to sell it and pass it on to a new owner.
