About This Listing

This late 1930s Gibson lap steel features a hollow body with a flame maple sunburst finished top and screwed on back.  The serial number is 683-48.  It sports a rosewood board with dot inlay, a V-shaped end, and a nut width of 2 1/8th”.   A diamond inlay graces the black headstock along with the original open gear Grover tuning machines.  The Charlie Christian-style pickup sounds gorgeous through almost any set up.  It has the nice thick single coil tone associated with these steels.  Other features of this beautiful vintage lap steel include two bake-lite knobs on the same side (one brown and one black) and the original bridge and chrome plated bridge cover.  It weighs in at a solid 6 pounds 6 ounces and has a scale of 23 3/8th”.   There is some separation in the binding on the sides and light playwear throughout the guitar including light indentations on the top, some belt rash on the back, and finish dings at the tip of the headstock but for an instrument of its age it is in very impressive condition.  This is an amazing piece of history that would be perfect for a lap steel player looking for a high end fantastic sounding vintage instrument that will perfectly compliment his or her playing. Take it away…  Includes original hard shell case.
