Kenwood KR-11000GX Monster Receiver – 120 WPC / Pro Serviced / Custom Rosewood Burl Cabinet

Offered here is an extraordinary example of the Kenwood KR-11000GX, one of the largest and most impressive receivers produced during the great late-1970s "monster receiver" era.

Rated at a substantial 120 watts per channel into 8 ohms, the KR-11000GX combines serious amplifier power with an unusually elaborate complement of features, including a five-band graphic equalizer, four analog meters, built-in Dolby circuitry, multiple speaker outputs, dual phono inputs, extensive tape facilities, microphone mixing, preamp outputs, and Kenwood's distinctive timer system.

This particular receiver is in excellent original operating condition and has received professional attention to ensure superb, dependable performance.

Service performed includes:

  • Thorough cleaning and flushing of controls, potentiometers and switches
  • LED illumination upgrade
  • DC offset checked and properly adjusted
  • Amplifier bias checked and properly adjusted
  • Functions tested for proper operation

The receiver performs beautifully, with the tremendous power and authority expected from one of Kenwood's heavyweight designs.

Exceptional Custom Rosewood Burl Cabinet

What truly puts this example in a class of its own is the handmade solid rosewood burl cabinet, finished to a deep, high-gloss piano finish.

The figuring of the rosewood is spectacular, particularly across the broad top and side panels, and changes dramatically depending upon lighting and viewing angle. Combined with the KR-11000GX's dark faceplate, illuminated blue dial and meters, and extensive array of brushed-metal controls, the result is an exceptionally striking piece of vintage audio equipment.

Cosmetic condition is outstanding overall. There is a very small scuff to one edge of the custom wood cabinet, which is specifically shown in the photographs. Apart from this minor imperfection, the cosmetics are exceptional, with extremely little evidence of previous use.

Please examine the detailed photographs closely; they show the actual receiver being offered and form an important part of the description.

About the KR-11000GX

The KR-11000GX is the international/export counterpart of Kenwood's Model Eleven GX, and examples were frequently sold through overseas military PX/exchange outlets. Consequently, these receivers are considerably less common in the United States than many of Kenwood's domestic-market models.

The GX version was designed for international use and features selectable multi-voltage operation.

This particular receiver is currently configured for standard US mains voltage. It retains its Asian-style AC plug, and a suitable US plug adapter is included with the sale.

For use outside the United States, the buyer should verify and correctly configure the receiver for the local mains voltage before connecting it to power.

Shipping / Pickup

Worldwide shipping is available.

This is an exceptionally large, heavy and valuable vintage receiver and will be packed accordingly for safe transport.

Local pickup is also welcome for buyers who prefer to collect the receiver in person.

International buyers are welcome. Because this is a multi-voltage export model, buyers outside the United States should ensure that the voltage selector is properly configured for their local electrical supply before operation.

The receiver is presently configured for US voltage, and the sale includes an adapter for its original Asian-style AC plug.

The Kenwood KR-11000GX is already an uncommon and imposing receiver in standard form.
