THIS IS A VERY RARE, EXTREMELY LOW HOUR, TASCAM 122 MKII 3-HEAD CASSETTE DECK. IT HAS BEEN SERVICED, UPGRADED, AND IS READY FOR STUDIO/HOME USE
This particular deck was purchased, used for just a handful of hours, and then put away for decades. It is quite rare to come across a deck such as this, as it is pretty close to a brand new Tascam 122 MKII!
The following is a summary of the changes that have been made:-
- All solder joints on the motherboard have been inspected, due to age, and resoldered as needed to ensure reliable operation
- The motherboard has been recapped (except for the larger capacitors in the power supply)
- NOTE: There are two electrolytic capacitors in all Tascam 122 MKII decks that were installed backwards in the factory; replacement capacitors have been installed, in the correct orientation
- The original analog switch chips (LC4066) that were used in this deck, are widely known to negatively impact the audio signal path (especially the high frequencies), and have been replaced with a newer, improved, versions (MAX4066).
- The Playback board has been completely recapped, and the original Opamp has been upgraded to the NE5532N
- The REC board has been completely recapped.
- The Headphone amplifier has been completely recapped
- The transport has been disassembled, cleaned, had new lubricant applied, and then reassembled and checked for smooth operation.
- A heavy duty control belt has been installed in the transport, which should provide years of service.
- The original capstan motor has been replaced, as the capacitors in the original one had leaked and damaged its PCB.
- The capstan motor speed has been checked and adjusted to factory specifications
- New idler tyres have been installed
- A brand new (genuine Teac) Pinch Roller has been installed (the last one that I had).
- All switches and potentiometers have been cleaned/lubricated with Deoxit, to help ensure reliable operation.
- The original, incandescent, VU meter lamps have been replaced with long life, soft-white LEDs; LEDs are a little brighter than the original incandescent lamps, and give the deck a fresh look.
Alignment of R/P heads has been checked and adjusted as needed.
BIAS, Frequency Response, and REC/PB levels, for each tape type (Normal/CrO2/Metal) have been carefully adjusted to specifications.
The Pitch Control has been checked and is working properly (as it should, as it is practically unused).
Physically, it is in close to mint condition (see pictures for details) - just a few very minor scuffs on the top cover from storage.
FYI - a lot of time is spent on each deck that I work on, to make sure that it functions reliably before it is put up for sale. This involves a lot of time, adjusting BIAS, checking/adjusting the recording levels and frequency response as needed (for each tape type).
The deck comes complete with a copy of the User Manual, a pair of new RCA hookup cables, and 2 x brand new Maxell "Normal" position C60 cassettes.
The deck will be packed very carefully, in a new box, to help ensure that it arrives without incident.
