WHOA!
Here's a super-rare one: a vintage 1981 Rickenbacker 360 model with front and rear binding in Jetglo Black Gloss finish. Somewhat lost in time by 1980-the Rickenbacker company was clinging to its still popular bass lineup and was only filling very small orders of semi-hollow body electrics for the most part. That means that few guitars were produced in this time period and as you probable already know, 12-string versions are nearly nonexistent. Add in the compound rarity of a Double-Bound Jetglo Black example and we are talking extremely rare to say the least. This unit was made in December 1981 at the Rickenbacker factory in Santa Ana California U.S.A. It is in very nice condition and has obviously been well-kept its entire life. Draggin' Guitars has carefully inspected and fully verified this unit for authenticity. The guitar is 100% original and has no breaks, cracks repairs, or any funny business. The guitar has been professionally set up and is ready to go-it needs nothing.
The body features the classic double cutaway Rickenbacker silhouette with "Cat-Eye" sound hole and a Bound edge on the front and back side of the guitar. The white binding is in excellent condition and provides a killer vibe from any angle. The finish is in very good condition, it shows mild handling evidence-see photos. The set-neck design provides a sleek neck joint and the neck joint itself is clean and very solid.
The neck itself is straight and very smooth with a great feel. The neck has a Vintage Medium-C Rounded profile and measures .925" at the 1st fret and .930" at the 12th fret. The nut measures 1.60" wide. The tuners all function smoothly and the guitar stays in tune perfectly. The headstock and logo display excellent: The classic Rickenbacker look that has remained virtually unchanged since the late 1950's. The African Rosewood fingerboard is clean and has a nice feel. The Triangle fret position markers are all in excellent condition. The frets have been cleaned and appear near-new height and shape-see photos. Again, this guitar has always been well-cared for. The action is set low for a fast and very easy playing experience. The string height measures .010" at the 1st fret and .060" at the 12th fret. The bridge is easily adjusted if you prefer a higher action. As it is-the guitar plays effortlessly with a soft touch. It plays like butter up and down the fingerboard with no dead spots anywhere.
The original High-Gain pickups have ALL of the Jangle, chime and Brilliance You'd expect from a Ricky. They both have an excellent signal and balance. The actual resistance readings are consistent with the era: The neck measures 13.85 ohms and the bridge measures 6.30 ohms. The overwound neck pickup was intentional in order to provide a volume balance with the blend control-which is in effect a series resistance placed in front of the volume control. With the blend knob halfway up, the pickup volumes are equal. That's why they did that. The wiring harness is in excellent condition and the original potentiometers all date to the last week of May, 1981. The controls all function smoothly and quietly. The pickguards are in excellent condition as is the bridge and "R" tailpiece.
The guitar is very fun to play. The semi-hollow body design allows for a nice acoustic experience if you should find yourself without an amp-or just want to play quietly alone...of course it really comes to life when plugged into any quality amplifier! The guitar is at home in the studio and absolutely RULES the stage, completely stealing the show as all alpha-dogs scramble. The guitar is a medium weight-it weighs 8.73 lbs. because it feels like it. Still comparable to a lot of Stratocaster weights these days.
The original hard case is included for protection and additional entertainment.
